What industry data includes
Industry data is a type of firmographic data: facts about companies rather than individuals. Common fields are industry and sub-industry, company size, revenue range, location, year founded and ownership type. Linked contact data then adds the people: names, job titles, departments, seniority and verified business contact details.
Start with your best customers
Before buying any list, look at your existing customers. Which industries buy most often, close fastest and stay longest? Which company sizes fit your pricing? This becomes your ideal customer profile (ICP), and it tells you exactly which industry segments to buy.
Go deeper than the industry label
"Manufacturing" or "healthcare" is too broad to be useful on its own. Effective segmentation goes one or two levels deeper:
- Sub-sector: metal fabrication versus food processing, or property and casualty insurance versus life insurance.
- Size and revenue: a 50-person firm and a 5,000-person enterprise buy very differently.
- Location: regulations, languages and buying habits vary by country.
- Job function and seniority: the economic buyer, the user and the technical evaluator need different messages.
- Technology used: combining industry with technographic data sharpens targeting further.
Common uses
Entering a new vertical
A focused industry list lets you test a new market with a small campaign before committing sales headcount.
Account-based marketing
Industry-specific messaging, case studies and events perform better than generic campaigns.
Market sizing
Counting companies by industry, size and region helps you estimate total addressable market and set realistic targets.
Events and research
Event organisers and research firms use industry lists to invite attendees, sponsors and survey respondents.
Tailor your message by industry
Each industry has its own language, regulations and priorities. A logistics company cares about fleet utilisation and delivery times; a bank cares about risk and compliance. Use industry-specific pain points, proof points and terminology in every touch.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between industry data and firmographic data?
Industry is one firmographic attribute. Firmographic data also includes company size, revenue, location and other company-level facts.
